09 Jun 2008 Race Report - Rounds 11 & 12 The World Series by Renault came to Silverstone over the weekend of 7th/8th June and with the Clio Cup supporting them it was sure to be a big weekend.Friday testing was a bit unsuall for the Clio Cup drivers, not only were most of them learning a track that they had never been on before, the Silverstone GP circuit, there was only one 90 minute session to get used to the track. With a 2min 10 laptime it was a tough challenge for the more experienced racers as well as Rob Boston, the 2008 Race Star winner.Unfortunately without the opportunity of two session and being able to analyse the data the team did there best to help Rob out. After the 90 minutes of racing Rob had put in 31 laps of the Silverstone GP. This might not sound much, but when you consider it is a 2min+ laptime it was over 1 hour of solid driving. With a best time of 2:10.439, 1.5 seconds off pacestter Paul Rivett, Rob had set a time good enough for 14th place. QualifyingQualifying for Rounds 11 & 12 of the Clio Cup championship took place on the Silverstone GP circuit at 5:45pm. 30 minutes to set 2 lap times to decide the starting position for Rounds 11 & 12 was available. Setting two laps quick enough for 198th on the grid in both races as the result of some hard work by Rob during the session. Race 1 Race 1 took place on Sunday 8th June in front of over 100,000 people. Starting from 18th on the grid Rob made progress through the traffic in front of him. Unfortunately on lap 4 the car lost power and had to pull over and retire from the race. After investigation the one of the cables had been burnt through which had caused the car to lose power. This was fixed and the car prepared for Race 2. Race 2 Race 2 was a much better race for the team. Starting in 18th place again, Rob pushed hard and made up a few places in the opening laps. With the length of the Silverstone GP circuit the race spread out and positions remained static for a few laps. Then half way through the race Rob closed up on a group of drivers in front of him and managed to squeeze past. With 2 laps to go Rob was in 13th place battle with Bradley and a group of other drivers in front. There was a tussle and Bradley hit the barriers whilst trying to avoid the cars spinning around in front of him. This put Bradley out on the spot and with the commotion going on Rob managed to get up to 10th place before the safety car was deployed. As the time counted down for the race, the safety car came in with one lap to go - it was a sprint to the finish line. Rob held station for half the circuit, before being overtaken on the outside after a wobble. Heading back into the complex it looked like Rob would have to settle for 11th place, but he was not to be detered a top 10 finish. Powering round teh outside and taken the inside line for the next corner of the comples. 10th became 9th after Niki Lanik ended his race in the gravel trap. After a hard weekends work, Rob and the team were happy to get another top 10 finish under their belt and were already looking forward to the next round at Snetterton in July.Don't forget that Race Star are offering a 15% discount for the month of June only.
