03 Nov 2008 Two Podiums in Winter Series

2009 Double Six Racing driver, Phil House competed in the Winter Series at Croft at the weekend.

Qualifying
Qualifying took place on Saturday morning with the track damp following a downpour earlier in the day. The decision to use wets was made as the track was taking time to dry out. House put in some good times and was lying in 3rd place just 0.01 behind McDowall in 2nd. With two laps to go House put in an excellent lap taking him up to 2nd place for Race 1 with his best time, and with the second time giving him a 2nd place starting slot for Race 2.

Race 1
The track had started to dry and there was a visible dry line around the circuit everyone started on slick tyres. House starting in 2nd place but on the drier side of the track managed to get a great start and into the first corner was leading the rest of the pack. As everyone got used to the conditions it stayed pretty much the same up front for a couple of laps. On lap 3 Smith made a late move down the inside of House entering the last corner. This pushed House wide and slightly onto the grass giving Smith better traction out of the corner and taking him into the lead. House slotted in behind with McDowall close on his tail. For the next few laps House and McDowall were running as one allowing Smith to pull away. House then got into a grove and starting putting in some great laps setting the fastest lap of the race. This allowed House to pull away from McDowall, but Smith was too far up the road to catch and House crossed the line in 2nd place and a place on the podium.

Race 2
The weather had turned for the worse and another downpour happened just before the start of the race - all drivers were on slick tyres. House starting in 2nd place again didn't have the benefit of a drier line as the entire track was wet. Into the first corner and House slotted in behind Smith, with McDowall in close proximity in 3rd. It stayed that way for most of the race until a downpour with two laps to go caused Houses windows to steam up. This allowed McDowall to close the gap and on the last lap House missed his braking point into the first corner, allowing McDowall to nip through. Another podium visit for 3rd position left House 11 points behind Championship leader Smith with two races left to go.
