We are pleased to announce the names of the Official Clio Cup Scholarship instructors for Round One.

They all have a vast amount of experience in racing and instructing and will be on hand to give each competitor advice on how to get the best out of the car.

Gary Jones
  • Started racing Formula Fords in 1994 and has also race in Vauxhall Junior and Legends
  • Many race wins - 1999 pre 87 North West Formula Ford Champion
  • Senior instructor 8 years plus experience
Matt Howson
  • Aintree Racing Drivers' School Scholarship Winner in 2000.
  • Formula Ford (Kent) 2001 - 3rd overall Star of Midlands
  • National Formula Ford Zetec, junior and senior from 2002 - 2004.
  • Formula BMW Championship 2005 - 3rd overall (several wins)
  • Raced Formula Renault and tested Formula 3 cars
  • 5 years plus instructor experience
Jez Unsworth
  • Formula Ford (Kent) 1998-2001 with several race wins and podiums
  • BARC Formula Renault up to 2004
  • 2004 Monoposto Champion
  • 5 years instructor experience
Jim Kelly
  • Started racing in 1976 in Formula Ford.
  • 16 years racing experience
  • Formula Ford 2000 and Sports 2000 and also tested Formula 3 cars
  • 20 years instructor experience
Neil Boardman
  • Aintree Racing Drivers' School Scholarship Finalist 2000
  • MSA Karting
  • 2005 North West Formula Ford Champion
  • 18 months instructor experience
Oliver Stirling
  • Starting racing when 17 in 2000 in Monoposto - 2 seasons
  • 1 BRSCC Formula Ford race - won
  • 2005 and 2006 Sports 2000 with many class wins. Currently lying 2nd in championship with 1 round to go on 22nd October
  • 12 months instructor experience
Malcolm Barfoot
  • Started racing in 1977 in Formula Ford
  • Winner of 4 Formula Ford Championships and 10 top 3 championship finishes over the years
  • Raced Formula Ford 2000, Thundersports and saloons
  • Tested Formula Vauxhall, F3 and F3000
  • 78 race wins and over 150 podium finishes
  • Chief Instructor and Founder of Aintree Racing Drivers' School
  • Also started Aintree International Racing Drivers' School in South Africa in 1990
  • 28 years instructor experience
