08 Mar 2007 2007 Winner Announced

Double Six Racing are delighted to announce that the winner of the inaugural Official Clio Cup Scholarship is Andrew Bentley, Film Production Co-ordinator, aged 25, from Northampton. Andrew drives away with the prize of a seasons racing, joining the 2007 Clio Cup Championship as the 44th driver on the grid.

On winning the scholarship Andrew was overwhelmed with emotion, “To win this prize is quite simply life changing. It has been my dream to race cars for as long as I can remember. I have worked hard to achieve my goals but a lack of finance has always prevented me from fulfilling my potential. Double Six Racing and all of the sponsors involved have given me an opportunity to prove myself and indeed vindicate their decision to choose me as their driver.

I had a great time at all of the rounds of the scholarship and I feel that the amount of driving time you actually get at the qualifying rounds more than covers the cost of entering. The instruction was very good and really helped me to get the best from my time in the car. Each instructor was very enthusiastic and wanted to make sure I did my best. The scholarship is amazing value (even if you don’t win!) and I would recommend anyone to enter, no matter what experience you have as you stand a great chance of winning an amazing prize.

Winning meant everything to me, and I could feel my heart trying to jump out of my chest as I waited to hear if it was me. It really is an amazing feeling to know that I will be on the Clio Cup grid this year and that I have a racing car with my name on it.”

Marc Nelson, Double Six Team Manager commented, “It has been such a diffiicult decision to make, there have been so many excellent drivers, even those that did not make it through to the final stages were very good. Andrew was consistently in the top 4 from the end of Round Two of the competition and he was the unanimous choice for the panel of judges at the final. We are confident that Andrew will be fantastic in the Clio Cup Championship this year and are looking forward to a successful season together.”

Andrew finished with saying “It’s great to see both Marc and Lisa’s dream of the scholarship come true. It’s obvious I wouldn’t be in a position like this without them and I owe everything to their passion and love of the sport.”

You can follow Andrew’s progress throughout the season on Motors TV and on the RaceStar.TV" web site in a ‘fly on the wall’ documentary that is being produced by Double Six Racing. The documentary starts on Friday 30th March at 8.30pm when you will be able to see how Andrew performs against the rest of the grid during the Official Clio Cup Test day at Brands Hatch.
