Thruxton - Round Three
Thruxton is the fastest circuit on the Clio Cup calendar and Bentley had to get to grips with the track much quicker than normal - the usual Friday practising taking place some weeks prior to this weekends action.

With qualifying straight after lunch on Saturday, Bentley managed to finish 10th in his group of 21 and almost break the 100mph average with a 99.37mph lap. In the race Bentley made an average start losing two places within the first two corners. Battling back further into the lap saw Bentley overtake 4 cars to finish the first lap 2 places better than his start position. He kept 8th position for most of the race and even posted the fastest time of everybody on lap 4. The following lap saw an incident between Doyle and Fildes, with Fildes slipping from 6th down to 12th, thus gaining Bentley a place to 7th. Unfortunately, on the final lap the oil warning light came on and Bentley lost 4 seconds and 7th place to Aron Smith.

Sunday and Bentley lined up on row 8 which gave him the outside for the first corner. A great start and Bentley moved over towards the inside passing Smith. What looked like the perfect start was then completely ruined by Barry Benham short cutting the first corner and bouncing off the kerb into the side of the Racing Scholarship car. The effect was catastrophic as Bentley, completely sideways, floored the throttle to pull the car back pointing the right way. This was great car control ala Tom Onslow-Cole but the other cars all took avoiding action with Fildes tangling heavily with MacDowall and 5 others also going out between the first and second corners. This led to a 4 lap safety car period which had Andrew back in 20th place and lucky to be in one piece. The race was then on to improve but Bentley could only manage to pass two cars to finish a slightly disappointing 18th.

Next up is Croft and Andrew is confident that he can learn from the Thruxton action and claim another top 10 finish.
