 | Donington Park - World Series by RenaultThe World Series by Renault visited Donington Park for the UK round with the Clio Cup Championship being an exciting part of it.
After a excellent test session on Wednesday, Bentley was confident that he could further improve on his 8th place. Having missed the previous Brand Hatch round because the car had not been repaired following the incident at Snetterton, Bentley and Team Manager, Marc Nelson, both thought a podium was on.
The race was tight from the off with plenty of wheel to wheel action right down the field. At the end of the 20 minute race Bentley had improved to 10th giving him a 19th place starting point for the Sunday race. Not were the team had hoped. Sunday, and with around 80,000 spectators watching, Bentley tried desperately to make an impression. Unfortunately he ran wide at the first corner and slipped to 22nd making his task even more difficult. He then made it past a few and with a good run down the Craner Curves he had a go at passing Cleland. With Bentley not backing off the 66 car’s front bumper rubbed the rear of Cleland’s but he couldn’t get passed. Bentley then moved to the outside as the went around Schwantz Curve and tried to dive down the inside at McLeans. They touched and Bentley was up a place. For the next lap of two Bentley closed in on the next group. As they approached the Esses(?) Bentley made a brave move to pass Winrow, but with the door suddenly being closed Bentley hit Winrow breaking the Scholarship winner’s steering and putting him out of the race. |
