20 Mar 2008 Race Star Winner Hits Track

Rob Boston, winner of Race Star 2008, joined up with the rest of the Clio Cup grid at the Official Clio Cup test day on Thursday 20th March at Silverstone.

It was the first time he had faced the rest of the competition and gave the Double Six Racing team an indication of the pace he is likely to show at the season opener at Brands Hatch on 29th/30th March.

The morning started off overcast and the weather was changeable. Boston set off for some sighter laps in the 2008 Race Star livery for session 1. As each lap went by the times started coming down and Boston finished the session just over 1 second slower than the best time posted by Paul Rivett (one of the 2008 panelists). The team were pretty happy with the way the first session went and were looking forward to session 2.

The weather was to play a big part throughout the day as rain hit the track for session 2. A tricky start to life as a Clio Cup racer was in store for Boston. However the team were confident in his ability in the wet having seen some impressive displays during Round Two of Race Star at Croft back in January. They weren't wrong with Boston immediately on the pace in the wet as the track began to dry the team brought Boston in. Session 3 went pretty much the same way. The best times were set by drivers when the track was at it's driest whilst the DSR carwas in the pits. This meant that in both the 2nd and 3rd sessions Boston was left in 20th and 25th. Both the team and driver were not too upset by this as the best time during the wet period was good enough for 5th or 6th on the grid.

Session 4 started wet again and again Boston led the way maintaining 2nd to 4th throughout the majority of the session. On the last lap Boston posted a time was that was good enough for 2nd place, only to see two other drivers go faster on their last lap. Boston finished the 4th session in a very respectful 4th position.

Silverstone had been a good test day for the team with some real promise shown by Boston. Now the Clio Cup travels to Brands Hatch in just over a weeks time and the team and Boston can't wait to get stuck in.
