04 May 2008 Race Report - Rounds 5 & 6 After the accident at Rockingham at the previous round the team had a race against time to rebuild a new car in time for the Donington Park meeting. After a superb effort by the team we were left with the gearbox and some small items left to fit in. The Donington rules meant that Free Practise was a day earlier than normal and took place on Thursday 1st May. The gearbox arrived Thursday lunchtime and although this was too late for the Free Practise the team were confident that the car would be ready for Saturday Qualifying. Unfortunately a last minute glitch causing the engine not to start on Saturday meant that the car was not ready for Qualifying and although the team did everything they could to try and get Rob out on the track and the fact that the car was ready for the first race, the rules state that if you haven't completed 3 laps in qualifying you cannot race. So that was it for the weekend - a very frustrating weekend for the team and Rob. It just makes us all more determined to succeed at Thruxton. |
