02 Jun 2008 Race Report - Rounds 9 and 10 Croft was the venue forRounds 9 and 10 of the Clio Cup Championship on 31st May and 1st June. Hopes for a great performance were high with Rob returning to his home circuit and the scene of his Race Star finalist win. QUALIFYING Rob was in a relaxed confident mood approaching the qualifying session which provides the grid for Race 1 and 2. Rob put in some great timesand was looking onfor improving his best time ona couple of laps only for his laps to be interupted by other drivers and traffic. By the end of qualyfing Rob had put in two laps worthy of 10th position for both races. RACE 1 Rob, starting in 10th place was on the outside for the first corner. Making his way around the first corner Rob dived to the inside and took a place away from Nick Addcock moving up to 9th place. In the next couple of laps Rob made a great move to take 8th place and join in a three way tussle for 6th place with Pyper and Osborne. Initially Rob got passed Smith and following closely through the first chicane, lost gripand took to the grass. With some excellent car control Rob managed to save it and only lose one place back to Pyper and wasdown to 9th place again. Rob was soon back on the pace and chasing down the two cars in front. As they battled each other going into Tower, Pyper passed Osborne which slowed Osbone down allowing Rob to nip through into 7th place. Once passed Osbone Rob was level with Pyper enter the Jim Clark Esses. Making a brave move down the inside Rob took the place away from Pyper and proceeded to drive away and secure a very pleasing 6th place at the finish. RACE2 The first part of Race 2 was an exciting time as Rob made his way up to 9th Place. Rob joined in a three way battle for 7th place with Osbone and Bradley. There was some contact between Bradley and Osbone sending Bradley wide at the first chicane. Rob saw a chance to nip through only for Bradley to come back and make contact with the rear wheel of the 66 car sending it onto the grass. With a broken rear axle it was the end of the race for Rob. A disappointing end to the weekend. The team are now focused on preparing for the World Series by Renault meeting on 7th and 8th June. Why not come along an cheer on the Race Star 2008 winner as he battles his way through the championship. It is also a great opportunity for you to meet the Race Star team and sign-up for your chance to win Race Star 2009. Look out for a World Series by Renault special offer for Race Star coming soon. |
